Training for the Kootenai River Ride
August 3rd, 2006
It's been a few years since I've participated in a real road cycling event. My one and only claim to prowess at cycling is BAK (Bike Across Kansas) where for a week in 2002 I rode across Kansas state--the long way, from Colorado to Missouri. My faithful friend throughout the event was a purple Bianchi road bike that I bought in Utah for $200. The bike is still with me and I'm getting it tuned up and ready for another nice ride, though this time just for one day.
This September 23rd is the Kootenai River Ride, a local event sponsored by the Rotary Club. There are 20k, 56k and 95k rides that start at the Boundary County fairgrounds and go throughout the center of the county. I've started to train so that if the route tries to climb out of the valley into the benchland I'll be ready. There are a lot of great road rides in this part of the county, but some of them are quite challenging vertically.
Details about the event are found at Rotary's local website.
