Hello DSL... Goodbye Dialup

April 30th, 2007

We're connected! High-speed internet has reached our remote little town, and we are now connected via DSL. Hopefully that will mean I can post more frequently on this site instead of trying to fit in blog posts over my lunch break at work. And I think my wife will be a lot happier now that she can see the photos her friends keep sending over e-mail. There was a brief stretch last winter when one of our neighbors unwittingly provided free wireless, but somehow they finally realized they needed a secure network connection, so we've been on 36 kbps ever since!

We had been on dial-up until recently as well, but that was because we are very, very cheap and couldn't bring ourselves to pay a large monthly bill for DSL. Now we have one of those "DSL Lite" packages with our phone bill and it actually costs us LESS than it did when we were on dial-up.

Of course, there's always our neighbour's wireless network, but I can't rely on them forever.
