Denmark Photos
September 5th, 2008
I finally uploaded some photos from my Denmark trip. The full album is on Picasa here.
I spent the first week riding my bicycle across the main island (Sjaelland), from Copenhagen in the east to the west coast. Then I took a ferry to Samso, a quiet little island. My final ferry ride took me to the mainland, where I rode north to a beautiful place near a ruined castle at Kalo. I attended a week-long conference there and then hitched a ride back to Copenhagen for my flight home.
Denmark is not a pretentious country, and the scenery is quite tame. But it is a beautiful place to ride a bicycle and it seems the country has more bike paths than the entire U.S.
Here are some highlights:

Very nice. Thanks for sharing the pictures. How did the folding bike work out? Was it good to ride? Frankly I'm jealous.

The folding bike was great. I've been surprised how comfortable it is. I actually like it a lot more than my other road bike which is probably more "efficient" but definitely less comfortable. And the folder is relatively efficient as well. It only has 8 speeds so you can't keep up with a racer, but loaded down with gear it performs just as well as my roadbike. My only technical difficulty on the trip was a flat tire (that kept recurring because I didn't have a good patch and the replacement tube I bought in Denmark didn't have the right valve... but I finally got a good tube about halfway through the trip). The only other complaint is that if you hold the handlebar with one hand, you get handle vibration because of the long stem. But I've used it tons. I keep it folded in my trunk and ride all the time at work or wherever I go.
